Travel Matters Highlights…
Jashita Hotel is the perfect oasis to flop and relax, but it would be a huge shame not to explore the surrounding region and learn about what has made Yucatán one of the New 7 Wonders of the World! The Mayan civilization was regarded as the most dominant indigenous societies of Mesoamerica (Mexico and Central America), dating back to 2000 BC to its colonisation in by the Spanish Empire in the 16th Century. As a result, the landscape is rich with world-famous archaeological sites and a primeval Mayan port city that demands an imposing position atop a cliff overlooking the Ocean.
Being close to Tulum, the Yucatán Peninsula, you are a short road trip from Chichen Itza. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known by many as the showpiece of Mayan archaeological scene, due to its visual scale and impressive one-thousand year history. This sacred site was formally a city that spanned over ten-square kilometres and today some of the stone monuments and artistic works can still be seen – such as the Warriors’ Temple, El Castillo and El Caracol.
Travel Matters biggest tip is to make time to research all sites of interest in the locale. We are happy to lend you our knowledge and make any requests you have with Jashita Hotel’s Concierge Team, so that you can have the cultural tour of a lifetime.
Map & Location…
The Biosphere Reserves and National Parks are in abundance in the Yucatán!
The Peninsula is truly a masterpiece and was shaped by a meteor over 65 million years ago. In essence, this landscape sits upon a block of limestone that measures approximately 134,400sq km in size, with an impressive coastline of 700 miles. The Peninsula includes parts of Belize and Guatemala and three Mexican states (Yucatán, Quintana Roo and Campeche).
Jashita Hotel is deep within the Yucatán, where thousands of nature enthusiasts flock to every year. What can you expect to see? Hundreds of tropical birds, crocodiles, dolphins, monkeys and turtles fill the landscape. What is extra special about this destination is population of returning Whale Sharks. Take a day trip to Contoy and Holbox Island and take the plunge into the abyss and swim alongside these gentle giants. You will also be privy to a wonderful underwater display of colourful fish and coral.
You will not find many destinations that have a splendour of ancient ruins. The Mayan ruins that are associated with the Yucatán tell the story of ancient cities & civilisations that were later colonised into cities for the use of their new conquerors. A visit to Mérida, the capital of the Yucatán, will expose fine colonial architecture and contemporary restaurants that offer the perfect mixture of culture of and sustenance (for both the mind and stomach). No need to make a list of spectacles to prioritise, we’ve done it for you; Cenotes Dos Ojos, Hacienda Sotuta de Peon, Paseo de Montejo, Rio Secreto andTulum Archaeological Site.
