About…

Sundy Praia, a fellow member of The Long Run, is a sustainable tourism project providing unforgettable experiences through interaction with the local community. As part of the HBD Príncipe Group, the project is committed to its guests and aims to sculpt experiences that they will never forget; by ensuring excellent service, a comfortable stay and the showcasing of a unique environment.

Ever heard of a Tented Villa? Neither had we! Sundy Praia has masterfully fashioned tented-villas amongst what was once the second major Cocoa Plantation on Príncipe, so guests will feel the cosy & discreet affects of the tropical scenery. Guests have a choice of One Bedroom, Two Bedroom & Three bedroom Villas’ with private swimming pools, which seamlessly merge into what will feel like your own tropical oasis!

After a long day of each gazing at the sea, sauntering amongst the trails and recreating the lifestyle of locals, guests are invited to dine at Sundy Praia’s exquisite restaurant. The Chefs are eager to show off the bountiful local produce and cook up a storm (keep an eye out for the Wahoo Tuna), so we recommend the tasting menu that has been appropriately designed with a selection of fine wines. In the later evenings, guests will still have the use of the Pool Bar, where selections of quirky cocktails are served up to compliment what has been the perfect day!

Key Sustainable Features…

The HBD Príncipe Group at Sundy Praia are on a mission! They want to give back to the sustainable & responsible development of Príncipe Island, as well as the conservation of its precious biodiversity. That’s why we love their ‘4 C’s’ approach -

  • Conservation - Thriving ecosystems and biodiversity are integral to the survival of people and our planet. Conservation is safeguarding this biodiversity to support global needs.

  • Community - People matter; it is the right of every person to have their basic needs met, and enhancing the well-being of communities is a fundamental obligation of all.

  • Culture - Celebrating cultural diversity and commonality nurtures understanding and fosters connections. Respecting cultural difference is crucial to our future.

  • Commerce - Trading has been central to the development of civilizations over thousands of years and is likely to remain so, and so sustainability must be central to business.

Travel Matters Highlights…

São Tomé and Príncipe is destination like no other! If you’re the kind of traveller who wants to immerse yourself in nature and learn about conservation, we couldn’t recommend these sets of islands more!

We love that Sundy Praia can arrange special events such as weddings and honeymoons. But their talents & service don’t end there! Arrange a time to visit the activities lodge and arrange a scenic boat trip, biosphere trek, 4X4 island tours, trips to the local fishing village and plantation and so much more.

You will also be able to whiteness Female sea turtles nesting their eggs on the beaches of Principe island between October and January & hatching between December and April. This is a great chance for a family who might be interested to learn about the conservation of this threatened species.

Map & Location…

Located off the coast of Africa, in the Gulf of Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe is the second smallest country of the continent after the Seychelles. Its beauty will impress even the most daring of travellers! Príncipe Island is part of the renowned World Network of Biosphere Reserves - an international programme established to promote and stimulate the conservation of biological & cultural diversity, as well as enhance the economic & social development of its destinations.

The Island was discovered by the Portuguese in 1471 and its Capital, Santo António, was named after Saint Anthony. In this quaint town on the north-eastern coast; many of the locals businesses, landmarks and traditional performances can be found.

As the island is only 136 km², you’ll be pleased to know that visiting all the key sites will be achievable. The southern part of Príncipe Island is home to the traditional fishing village of Praia Abade and Nova Estrela Viewing Point, where the spectacle of the Ilhéu Boné de Jóquei and Terreiro Velho viewing points can be admired.

Life on Príncipe is bliss! We recommend a stay of this sort for the intrepid type of tourist, who is content with romance of the tropical rain forest, prominent banana trees, sensational shoreline, cheerful locals and distinctive (but sometimes secretive) wildlife.
